Bay FC Names New Head Coach

Bay FC, the newest National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) franchise, has revealed its logo, its colors, its venue – and now it has announced its inaugural head coach: Albertin Montoya. Highly regarded in the soccer world, Montoya is known for developing soccer talent, coaching at virtually every level, from the local club level to the national team.

“Albertin has strong roots in the rich tradition of Bay Area soccer. He has been a leader in focusing on the technical pillar of development, which is a critical piece to bringing the beautiful game to life,” said Aly Wagner, co-founder and co-chair of Bay FC.

His ties to the Bay Area are long and deep. When he was six years old, his family immigrated from Cuba and settled in Mountain View, where his father coached him for ten years at MVLA. He went on to play for Santa Clara University and then in the MLS for the San Jose Clash, now known as the San Jose Earthquakes.

Much of his professional coaching career has been on the women’s side of the game, where he’s won recognition as the Soccer America Women’s Coach of the Year and FIFA Women’s World Coach of the Year finalist in 2010. As the head coach of the U17 U.S. Women’s Youth National Team, he led the team to a CONCACAF championship in 2012.
