Former pros and top coaches commit to LGU’s goalkeeper program

Did you know Los Gatos United has former professional goalkeepers who serve as full-time coaches in our goalie program, plus a former NBA strength and conditioning coach and a current Division-I goalie, among other standout coaches, all offering twice-a-week goalie-specific programs at no cost to our athletes?

We believe our goalkeeping program is unmatched by any soccer club in the Bay Area, and we want all of our interested goalkeepers to take advantage of what we offer.

All LGU goalies have access to two specialized training sessions per week. This typically includes one group training session and one larger clinic on Friday nights.

The Friday Goalkeeper Clinic: A centerpiece of the program, this clinic provides goalkeepers with a full field for an hour and a half (6:45 PM – 8:00 PM during the spring season) at Creekside. The clinic utilizes a station-based curriculum covering:
    ◦ Footwork and handling
    ◦ Shot stopping and cross collecting
    ◦ Strength and conditioning, including core work and explosive footwork

Group GK Training Sessions: Players are organized into four distinct groups (A, B, C, and D) based on skill level rather than age. This allows for fluid movement between groups as players develop.

To participate, players simply need to notify their team coach, who will then coordinate with our goalkeeper director to add them to BYGA, the communication platform.

Our favorite part of the program is the leadership opportunities that our older keepers have embraced.

By mixing more experienced players with some younger but equally as energetic players in the same groups, we’ve seen players develop into mentors. These players understand the importance of passing down their wisdom and confidence to help build a community of goalkeepers who we hope will support each other for life.

Thank you to all our amazing keepers for their dedication to the program!

And we’re excited to welcome new keepers of all ages to join our clinics, at no extra cost for our LGU club players.

Please connect with your coach if you’re interested!

And don’t forget to sign up for our Summer Goalkeeper Academy, a high-level weekly training program for goalkeepers ages 10–17, beginning the week of June 8 at Union Middle School. More info here.
