THE WORK ON THE FIELD / LOS GATOS UNITED

PLAYER DEVELOPMENT

Build the player. Then keep building.

Technical quality, better decisions, physical readiness and confidence. LGU’s approach starts with the individual and develops over years, not just weekends.

FOUR PARTS OF THE WORK.

Players need a strong relationship with the ball, the confidence to try things and enough repetition to use their technique under pressure. As the game grows, so does the work.

01 / TECHNICAL FOUNDATION

Ball mastery, receiving, passing, dribbling and finishing. Repeated work helps players use their technique with speed and purpose.

02 / GAME UNDERSTANDING

Scan, recognize cues and solve pressure. Players learn to make decisions rather than simply memorize patterns.

03 / ATHLETIC DEVELOPMENT

Movement quality, strength and speed support the player as the physical demands of training and competition increase.

04 / CONFIDENCE & RESILIENCE

Room to make mistakes, respond and keep learning. Challenge, trust and repetition are part of building confidence.

TECHNICAL PRACTICE AT HOME

Use LGU’s Technical Series A and B videos for individual practice alongside team training. Consistent work on ball control, passing, dribbling and using both feet helps build a strong technical foundation. Ask your coach which exercises fit your player’s development.

Choose a video to watch, then take it to the training field. Each clip is under a minute.

THE GAME CHANGES. THE PLAYER STILL COMES FIRST.

Different formats bring different demands. The development focus changes with the player’s stage, not just the weekend result.

7v7 / Technique & courage

Comfort on the ball, the confidence to try things and plenty of meaningful touches.

9v9 / Technique under pressure

Spacing, transition and faster decisions as players encounter more of the game.

11v11 / A larger, faster game

Positional understanding and tactical detail alongside increasing physical demands.

Older players / Prepare for what comes next

Performance, role clarity and competitive consistency, with preparation for the next environment.

SPECIALIST WORK. A CONNECTED PLAYER.

Goalkeeper development focuses on footwork, handling, distribution and decisions in the position’s unique game situations.

Sports performance addresses movement quality, strength and speed as the player matures.

These are parts of a broader development environment, not substitutes for learning the complete game.
